Snow is starting to pile up in Houston, Texas today as a storm system is gearing up for the Southern States. Snow is forecast to fall across Central and East Texas before moving into Lousiana and Mississippi later today. Here’s some snowfall statistics from the National Weather Service office in Southwest Louisiana.

A rare snow event in New Orleans is possible. Computer models are indicating the freezing line near the surface may be just West and North of the New Orleans area. However, changes in the temperature during the storm may cause snow to stick in the city.

The forecast temperature map above shows temperatures will be close to freezing tonight in the New Orleans area. Temperatures will be at or below freezing across Northern Louisiana and most of Texas.

This same storm system is expected to dump heavy rain across portions of Florida before moving up the Eastern Seaboard.

The Great Lakes region could also expect some lake effect snow today.
